Hi,
I have a new class of kindergarten kids and I am finding it difficult to think of games that will work well with them. I am used to teaching 1st and 2nd grade (6-8 ) but this is the first time teaching kindergarten.
My class consists of 30 students (ages 3-5) for 20 minutes twice a week. I have some kindergarten teacher helpers so discipline isn't a problem. Half the class wanders off during class and does something else but the kindergarten teachers don't mind so I am not worrying about that.
The students all sit on a mat on the floor and don't have desks so I think doing any writing or craft activities might be out of the question.
So far I have taught them a hello song, walking walking (and stand up,sit down) and some animals. We played a hit the flashcard game with 2 teams. However, getting them to be in a team and not all cluster around me is tricky.
The second game we played was a dice game. I had a picture of me on the white board holding 6 balloons. I showed a student a picture, had them say the animal name and then roll the dice. If they rolled a 1 I erased the balloon holding number 1. If they rolled a 1 again I didn't erase anything. In the end I erased all the balloons so I fell off the board and was very sad. The students liked this game and asked to play it again.
What I am looking for is are there any other games that work well with large numbers of kindie kids. I don't mind if we play team games and the teams change during the game - I don't care about the points and only 1 of the older students was even keeping score.
I am particularly interested in games that get more students involved at a time. The dice game was good but only 1 student was doing it at any one time. Can kids this age play simple board games?
Thanks
I didn't find the right solution from the internet.
